Abstract

As of 2018, cardiovascular disease (CVD) remains the number one cause of mortality in the world. Decades of research have established that a healthy lifestyle, including regular exercise and proper nutrition, is one of the most feasible and effective ways to decrease CVD risk. The purpose of the upcoming intervention will be to compare the CVD risk reduction with Fruit and Vegetable (FV) diet + circuit exercise, with Mediterranean diet + circuit exercise, and examine relationships between changes in cardiovascular and vascular health measures. The diet tracking software Diet Analysis + used in the lab during the initial cohort of the clinical trial was compared to a new Diet tracking software, FoodProcessor by ESHA Research. The best method was validated and chosen to be used in future studies. Also, modifications needed to be made to the weekly diet checklist in order to continue research using a diet checklist and scoring system. The results from each dietary analysis method will be compared, and data will be provided in the Summer Fellows Symposium.
