Abstract

The physical and mechanical properties of polypropylene (PP) were measured and compared with those of PP composites filled with calcium carbonate modified with sodium polyacrylate, stearic acid, or both. The variations in the mechanical properties showed a high degree of correlation with the surface energies of the fillers, as determined by inverse gas chromatography. The results confirmed the usefulness of inverse gas chromatography for characterizing the compatibility of polymer-filler combinations.
